Colton and I discuss the joy of being apart of a music community and the importance of sharing the legacy of music with young people.
Colton Weatherston is a composer/musician/singer based in Philadelphia, PA. He teaches Podcasting and Voice-Over at Temple University in the Klein College of Communication, MSP (Media Studies and Production). He holds degrees from University of Southern California, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan. As a creative artist, Colton works in a variety of industries which combine Media, Voice, Performance, and Education. He has numerous credits in Film and Television, notably scoring the TruTV series “Adam Ruins Everything” with lead composer Leo Birenberg, as well as Dax Shepard’s 2012 near miss “Hit and Run”, and several Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies.
Apart from orchestral scoring, Colton specializes in “automotive” music, contributing heavy guitar riffs, Spanish flamenco, and smooth country acoustic strumming for dozens of vehicle reveals and advertising previews for both Ford and GM, most recently at the New York Auto Show. His interest in advertising music led him to a sideline career in Voice Over work, notably for Megaphone.fm, a leader in the Podcasting space. This led to a work narrating an audiobook, “She Wakes” by Jack Ketchum available on Amazon. Throughout, he maintains a weekly performance schedule with his jazz trio at the Walnut Street Cafe, and in 2017 received a prestigious Jazz composition grant from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The variety of work he has done speaks to the opportunities provided in the Media Industry to deliver creative content over global networks, all from a home studio environment. Beyond the technology, his favorite work remains writing for orchestra, searching for new sounds within the classic configuration of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
